Classes

Mathnasium is a learning center where students in second to 12th grade can go year-round to boost their math skills.

Members pay a low monthly fee and can drop-in anytime. On Sundays, the complimentary chess lessons are an added attraction.

Mathnasium's goal is to significantly increase a child's math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

Stepping Stone Tutors represents private tutors in San Diego and North County. Teaching is conducted on a one-on-one basis either at home or in a library, and sessions are custom-tailored to each child's need.

Tutors are selected by a careful screening process and are guaranteed to meet or exceed expectations.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum's annex, located at Gillespie Field, is used primarily to restore and replicate aircraft of bygone times. The planes are restored by dedicated volunteers, many of whom actually flew or worked on the original aircraft.

Kimball Recreation Center is located in Kimball Park. The building features a large hall, an office, and a small dance room.

The Center hosts summer camps, school vacation camps, Easter Camp, an afterschool program, Easter Seals functions, belly dancing classes, children's movement classes, gymnastics, tap, ballet, lyrical ballet, hip hop dance, ceramics, youth basketball, cheerleading, flag football, field trips, dances, crafts, sewing, movies, air hockey, and more.

The community center offers the We Care Preschool and Child Care center, an auditorium available for parties, grass play area with BBQs, sand volleyball court, and covered picnic pavilion.

Class offerings include dance, fitness, craft, hobby, computer, and sports. Call the center for class schedules.

Ceramicafe is a great place to hang out in a cafe atmosphere and paint your masterpiece ceramic. Choose from hundreds of ceramics like plates, figurines, mugs and more. Stencils, idea books, and stamps are available to enhance your creativity. You can also make mosiacs and create a hand or foot clay print. You can pick up your ceramic in five days after it's been glazed and fired.

Ceramics are available in a wide range of prices from $6 and up so this activity can fit into anyone's budget. The staff is very friendly and will help you set up your paint and choose colors.

Parties: Ceramicafe offers a Cupcake Party for birthdays or any occasion. There is a $35 party fee and $15 per child. Party includes cupcakes, punch, balloons, invitations, a $15 ceramic item, and a commemorative tile for the birthday boy/girl. If you want you can pay the deposit and bring your own cake, drinks, etc. and set your own limit on the cost of the ceramic.

Although it's a cafe they don't serve food, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks and something to drink. All of the paint is water soluble and non-toxic.

Aloha Fun CPR Training at Home comes to your home or business and provides training and certification in the lifesaving skills of CPR, choking remedies, and basic first aid.

Classes are only two-and-a-half hours long; 75% of the class time is devoted to hands-on practice.

OptiWell offers entertaining and interactive classes for teenagers and nannies to learn how to be safe babysitters. Courses are offered in San Diego and around the county, and include Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.

The American Red Cross, an organization funded by generous community donations, offers first aid, CPR, and water safety classes, along with lifeguard training and specialty classes such as infant/child CPR and Pet First Aid. Their Women, Infant and Children’s (WIC) program provides free nutritional counseling and support for expecting mothers and women with children ages five and under.

In addition, the American Red Cross responds to a disaster on average every 24 hours. Volunteers of all ages are invited to make a difference in the community. Emergency communication services are provided to deployed military personnel and their families through their Service to the Armed Forces program.

The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (the JCC) is located in a gorgeous campus environment near University Town Center. Its newly renovated and expanded facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness center (which provides babysitting services), an art gallery, theater, tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and the Nierman Preschool, a high quality childcare center serving children 18-months old to pre-kindergarten age.

The JCC offers a variety of social, educational, and sports programs for kids of all ages, regardless of race, religious affiliation, or cultural background. These programs include but are not limited to:

After School Youth Enrichment for ages K-6.
This program offers a variety of classes such as chess, Spanish, music, science, art, and computer skills to help make the afternoon hours a fun and educational experience.

A Teen Center, which provides a fun and safe place for kids 7th grade and older to hang out. Amenities include a pool table, foosball, large screen TV, computers and games. The Teen Center also hosts organized activities such as dances, game nights, and more.

A Youth Physical Education department that offers a wide range of leagues, classes, and opportunities for children of all ages to be involved in sports. Kids can join gymnastics, swimming, tennis, basketball, flag football, baseball, karate, and triathlon training.

Performing Arts classes include dancing, singing, music, voice and the very popular children's theater group, the J*Company, which performs full stage productions each quarter in the JCC's new 500-seat theater.

Camp Jaycee provides summer, winter and spring camps with themes such as sports, swimming, crafts, theater, cooking, and singing.

In addition, the JCC rents its facilites for birthday parties, hosts a kids' night out/parents' night off, and offers special all-day camps for school holidays.
